VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center is working to save lives and find cures right here in Virginia. To support their life-saving cancer research, I have accepted the Massey Challenge to fundraise and to give my miles meaning at the Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k.

I told myself I would wait until my husband, John, was free and clear from his battle with oropharyngeal cancer before embarking on a campaign, as a celebration of his remission. I've changed my mind.

After a second round of treatment following his recurrence last fall, and going on two years of EXCELLENT care at Massey Cancer, we are both doing well and waiting to see what happens, day to day... and I realize that it's never too early to celebrate those individual days, the little joys, and the progress. More importantly, it's never too early to be thankful for the many blessings and kindnesses we have received throughout the duration of his illness, and to show those thanks by giving good energy and hope to others who are battling cancer still.
