Bowling For Burns

Bowling for Burns

Help the Boxing Day Bowlers roll a strike for Burns Ackerly and all of those touched by cancer, and join us as we take to the streets once more for the Monument Avenue 10K in support of the Massey Cancer Center.

Burns, a charter member of the Boxing Day Bowlers, was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor in the fall of 2010. Three months after undergoing surgery at the University of Virginia, followed by radiation therapy at the Massey Cancer Center, and while still undergoing chemotherapy at Massey, Burns completed the 2011 Monument Avenue 10K, walking with family and friends. A year later, having completed her 12-month cycle of chemotherapy at Massey, Burns ran the race with her father and eldest niece.

Burns has participated in the Massey Challenge every year since her cancer diagnosis more than eight years ago, thanks in part to the kind and expert care she has received at Massey, and on April 13th she’ll be leading the Boxing Day Bowlers again.
